STORM DAMAGE
Winter storms ravage much of the Midwest and Northern Illinois every year, and sometimes this can include ice storms and freezing rain. When you’re dealing with Winter storms, lake snow storms and ice storms, damage to your home can include roof and structural damage from heavy snow as well as damage to fascia, exterior pipes and siding. These winetry storms often come with high winds, which can exacerbate damage by causing shingles to break loose. These Winter storms can wreak havoc on utility lines.
Winter storms and freezing weather can also create ice dams on roofs, which trap water in between your roofing and a layer of ice. These ice dams can be easy to miss, but are important to be aware of because they can quickly lead to roof leaks and then to mold and structural damage. If you think you may have Winter storm damage or ice dams on your roof, call JnJ Restoration at 312-804-1336
After a storm, don’t get on the roof or climb into the attic until you are sure it’s safe. Your JnJ Restoration home remodeling contractor will check for any signs of roof leaks, missing roof shingles or tiles, detached or missing ventilation pipes, damaged roof vents and compromised valleys and edges where your roof meets the walls.
When snow storms hit the Chicago Area, you may need to be even more cautious. These Winter storms can leave a quarter of an inch or more of ice on roofing surfaces. Storm damage can cause roofs to collapse, trees to fall and power lines to go down. Try to stay in your home until the Winter storm has passed and plan ahead with emergency food, water, supplies and power sources.
